Annual health check 2005/06 - 2008/09

This page provides key information concerning the NHS performance ratings, also known as the 'annual health check', conducted from 2005/06 to 2008/09.

What we looked at

Quality

  • Firstly, we looked at whether trusts were getting the basics of healthcare right - in other words, were they meeting the Government's core standards and existing commitments?
  • Secondly, we looked at whether trusts were making and sustaining improvements in priority areas – in other words, is it performing well against the Government’s national priorities?

Financial management

  • Thirdly, we also looked at whether trusts were managing their finances effectively – this assessment was based on work carried out by the Audit Commission and Monitor, the regulator of NHS foundation trusts.
